Stages and activities in construction of house
There are three stages involve in construction of a simple house.
- RCC stage
- Finishing stage
- Decoration stage
The study on all the construction activities will help you in manage your project and you can make the bar chart on some construction management software like Primavera. It will help you in make your project cost effective and smooth in execution.
Followings are the activities which are helpful in making your house.
(1) RCC stage
In this particular stage following items/ activities are involved.
Planning of a house: A planning of house before construction is main task to make your project smooth and easy to execute. It includes the activities like costing, design, hiring agencies, material to be used, etc.
Estimation and costing: Before starting the construction work estimation and costing is main task to prevent the delay of work and to arrange the finance.
Design ( architecture, structure, plumbing, interior, etc.): Designing your house is also early stage activity. Hiring a good engineer and architect will make your house design perfect for living.
Surveying: survey work is carried out before construction, for making boundary points, reference points, levels, etc. of a plot.
Masonry works: brick masonry or ACC block masonry work is done to separate the compartment area or make the room a private. It can be partition wall or main wall.
Soil strengthening ( if required): some of a loose soil may required the soil strengthening to reduce the soil settlement.
Boring (for water, if required): for water requirement bore well activity should be done before construction.
Temporary electrical connection: availability power supply for electronic items should be done before construction.
Temporary structure: Making of temporary storage room, labor room, electric room, toilets, bathrooms, etc.( as per requirements)
Excavation: Excavation for foundation work is done during the construction. It can be done both manually and by use of mechanical machinery like bulldozer.
Back Filling: back Filling is done after the footing casting work is done.
Dredging: dredging is done to provide a smooth and even surface for the work of concrete.
PCC (plain cement concrete): PCC is done for make a strong, smooth and even base surface for different purposes in construction.
Shuttering and centering works (Reinforcements cutting, bending, etc.): for making a steel work according to the drawing cutting, bending, lapping of a steel rebar is done, also, placement of formwork for the concrete according to the project drawing is done in this activity.
Formwork works: providing proper formwork for concrete work.
RCC works: making a RCC members like footing, beam, columns, slabs, lintels, etc. is done in this construction activity.
Scaffolding works: scaffolding is done to provide the support the concrete casting work.
Plastering works: plaster work is done to provide a smooth and even surface of a brick masonry wall or concrete.
Hacking works: to provide a good bond between plaster and concrete or wall, hacking is done before plastering.
Pointing works: Filling a gaps of a bricks with mortar called as a pointing work in construction.
Groove: Making Grooves in plaster or in a concrete for make it aesthetically more powerful.
Testing: Testing of cements, bricks, concrete, water, etc. is necessary before use of it.
Rebar: in some cases, to connect with old framed structure rebaring (with the use of chemical) is done in construction of a house.
Underground Water tanks work: Underground water tank is very essential part of a house. You can either place a PCC overhead water or construct a RCC overhead or underground water tank.
(2) Finishing works
Flooring work: Tiles work or flooring is a main part in the finishing stage of a house. Choosing right tiles or marble will boost the beauty of your house. There is so many option for the flooring of a house like, tiles(Vitrified, glossy, matt tiles, etc., Italian marble, white marble, granite, wooden flooring, etc.
Plumbing work: Planned and accurate plumbing work will give you a less maintenance in area of WC, bathroom, toilet, kitchen, etc. in your house.
Electrical works: This activity includes the work like Fitting of a conduit pipe, concealed pipes, power connection, and other electrical work.
HVAC: This activity include the work like ducting, pipe fitting, pipe conceal, frame work, etc.
Color work: As we all know, colour work in the house is very essential activity to make your house more beautiful and enhance your living standard. Choose the colors of your house wisely.
PVC tank: PVC water tank is used for storage of a water. It is generally placed at the terrace of your house. you can place it as per the space availability of your house.
Sanitary fittings: Sanitary fitting like tap fitting, flush cock, angle cock, sink cock fitting etc.is done in the finishing stage of a house.
Installing Electrical items( fan, lights, switches, etc.): Installing the electrical item like fan, light switches etc. is also completed in the finishing stage of the house.
Demolition of temporary structure false ceiling: After not the requirements of heavy material storage, You can demolish the temporary structure made earlier during the RCC stage.
Furniture works ( sofa, bed, wardrobe, drawer, tv units, etc.): Making the furniture items like sofa, bed, side table, etc. is a time taking process in the finishing stage. Choosing the right size, style, material will enhance the beauty of the interior part of your house.
False ceiling: There are so many designs are available now days, You can choose the right design and make a perfect false ceiling as per your need.
Glass works: Glass and mirror is generally used as decorative purpose. Mostly used as Exterior glass façade, glass partition, mirror in bed, etc.
Installing ACP sheets, cement sheet or other material: As per the project requirement, ACP sheet cement sheet or other type of material is used in the construction field.
Fabrication works: At some part of a house, like railing, grill, frame, etc. fabrication work is needed and done accordingly.
Fire system works ( if needed): Fire fighting system is generally applied at the commercial buildings. You should take some of the precautions at your home to prevent the fire.
Concrete cutting or breaking if needed: At some part of the house, core cutting or breaking of unwanted concrete is needed. hence, this activity is take place at the construction field.
Veneer polish works or other polish work: After the completion of the raw furniture work attaching the laminate of the veneer on the final surface of the furniture. after fitting the veneer, polishing is done.
(3) Decoration stage
Decoration stage generally include the final touch to your house. Decoration stage depend on your choice, personality, budget. Following are some points that include in the decoration stage.
- Installation of heater, solar panel, water purifier or RO systems, etc.
- Installing tv, fridge, washing machine, etc.
- Installing curtains to the windows.
- Purchasing the mattresses and other related material
- Installing Wallpapers
- Placing planters
- Installing décor item like painting, designer lights, bells, show case items, etc.
